Three of a Kind

These great egrets are standing on the remains of the roots of the native spartina grass, which was growing there as of last autumn. We have been invaded by a non-native rodent, the nutria, which feeds on the roots of marsh grasses. They have decimated thousands of acres of marsh in Maryland, and are now quite active in this area.
