Palm workers in the Danakhil Depression

It's too hot now to do much down on the plain so we spent part of the afternoon talking to women from the local Palm Association. They buy or cut fronds from Dome Palms down on the plain and ship them by camel train a day and a half away to a town where they store them and either work them into mats of various kinds or ropes, or sell them on to other users outside the area.
