Chamber Street Catacomb

This is the new entrance hall to the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street, Edinburgh. Well I say new, its been open for two years but I don't get out much.

This was part of a £47m refurbishment that took three years to complete. The entrance hall was originally used for storage, with its vaulted sandstone ceiling, it now houses the information desk on the right as we look, with the café ahead of us and behind - the ubiquitous museum shop. On the left are the toilets and what I consider to be totally inadequate access to the museum itself, especially if you are pushing a buggy full of children in front of you, as many were today.

On a grey day like today it is a great place for meeting friends under the whale.
