Saintes

We managed to get the hotel to allow us to lock up the bikes at the back of the hotel until the evening when the European Bike Express was to pick us up. This allowed us to explore Saintes without having to take the bikes and luggage with us.

It was very hot and we had to go into cafes lots of times for cold drinks. This Cathedral dominates the town. There were also remains of a Roman occupation, an Arc De Triumph and many other interesting buildings. But the cathedral could be seen from almost every part of the town.

I had made a mistake with the time that we were to be picked up and we were at the pick up point very early and to add to it the European Bike Express was an hour and a half late. We were glad that eventually we were joined by another couple also to be picked up otherwise we would have thought we were in the wrong place. However it was interesting to exchange stories about our respective routes.
