Florence Walkabout

After our gallery tour in the morning (during which we were NOT allowed to take any photos), Kathy and I decided to walk over to the Piazza Michelangelo. Friends from the tour had told us the view of the city from there was second to none. Our guide suggested that we take an alternate route, rather than walk along the river, and get to see a bit more of the residential parts of the city.

This picture, I believe, is the place where we went terribly wrong. We obviously took the wrong side road, because what should have been a 20 minute walk , somehow turned into a 2.5 hour hike.

We did eventually get to the Piazza, and I will admit, the route we took was FAR more exciting than the short jaunt along the river. Besides, don't you just love these incredibly narrow streets? And the sidewalks were a joke...there was no way you could actually walk on them. WAY too narrow!!
