Wai-O-Tapu

Torrential rain and Australia to New Zealand jet lag conspired for a later launch of the activities for the day. We decided to check out the "thermal wonderland" of Wai-O-Tapu. We showed up too late to see the Lady Knox Geyser that shoots off daily at 10:15. I was curious as to how it goes off the same time every day. Well it turns out it's "induced" every morning by dumping soap into the hole at the same time. The place was pretty neat regardless. This shot is of K at the park. We bought some nice tacky souvenirs and post cards plus a pricey but beautiful wool sweater for K. We were done in enough time to get K over to the Zorbing place before they closed. That's where they roll you down a hill in a big plastic ball. We had an awesome dinner which featured classic NZ lamb shanks and beer. One more day in NZ and then back to Alaska via Honolulu.
