This umbilifer flowers later than the more ubiquitous hogweed and its umbels are more domed. It also prefers moist ground but overlaps the hogweed's preferred habitat and can be found growing side by side.

For me, it is easily recognised by the huge leaf sheaths with really small pinnate leaves of darker green than hogweed (also different texture and leaf edge). Very distinctive.
