DanNic and the Hardflip Handrail...

Today was a whole heap of skateboarding.

Headed off to Sunny (and it was) Dalkeith to do a wee competition for their summer fayre. We skateboarded but we only managed to gather enough for a mixed discipline comp with three bmxers, a scooterer and a wee kid who borrowed one of our skateboards to enter. The small turnout however, did mean that nobody went away empty handed.

Next up it was off over to Saughton for the annual skate jam and part of the SkateboardScotland and SYB Concrete Slayer series. We had the Local Young Guns jam, under 16s jam, over 16s/Concrete Slayer and a new addition in a coned race around the park which was particularly fun.

Great weather which did stay off pretty well for us, great turn out and great atmosphere. It was a perfect blueprint for a skate jam and a great day.

Notes on the Picture...
This is Daniel Nicholas, local Edinburgh tech wizard going for a HardFlip** over the rail. Not sure if it was this shot but he did land it very convincingly.

**Hardflip is a weird combination of flip and spin of the board under you feet. It's weird and subsequently difficult because controlling the flip of a board is most easy with the front of your feet and so generally the board goes under and slightly in front of you. The HardFlip goes in the opposite direction and you have to get your feet out of the way once it gets in motion then back on the board to land it.
