Oncopeltus fasciatus

Large Milkweed Bugs on Showy Milkweed. As you might expect from the name, this bug is strongly associated milkweed, the grains of which the species almost exclusively consumes.

Milkweed Bugs are indeed "true bugs." Along with cicadas, aphids, shield and stink bugs, and others, they possess the sucking mouthparts that make a bug a bug.
