View from the High Street

This is the sort of high street where I feel most at home.
Some heavy rain overnight and the cloud was quite low but we decided to head for Haweswater as planned and it was brightening up as we arrived in Mardale (via a diversion where we opted for a minor road on the map which turned out to be very minor!).
Up Gatesgarth Pass and over Harter Fell to Nan Bield Pass, Mardale Ill Bell and High Street. There was a bit of mist at the top of the first pass but then the cloud gradually lifted and the sun came out. It remained hazy making silhouettes of the hills to the west (beyond Ullswater) which were matched in shapes by the undulating old wall.
After a while we turned off over Kidsty Pike and down to the reservoir where the low water level made many of the old walls visible.
We spent the evening with our friends and had a tasty tea and a wander round the village
