Barley awn

The awn of barley are the long spikes which are attached to the end of each grain. This year we have grown some barley and T wanted to test whether it was ready to harvest.

The first barley known about was grown about ten thousand years ago. Today it is grown for export, the brewing trade, animal feed and bread. It also links in to the rotation of crops following wheat but is not as productive as wheat.

Apologies for backblipping but photography has been out of my mind for a whilel!
