Traquair

On a day of sunshine and showers, we started our holiday proper. After all the wedding excitement we are beginning to relax.

Our first stop today was Abbotsford, the newly restored home of Sir Walter Scott. Only the ground floor of the house is open but it is interesting, particularly if you are a fan of Sir Walter. The gardens will look good in a few years' time!

The star of the day was Traquair, Scotland's oldest inhabited house. It is a beautiful looking house, still lived in by the Maxwell Stuart family. There is so much information and so much to read, it was all very interesting. Long views of the house were spoilt by the untidy remnants of a fair at the weekend, so I hope you like this closer shot.
