A Suffolk Eye

Roof view

We got a chance to get up on the roof of Kings College Chapel, in Cambridge today.

Its really exciting. Correction: Its really, really REALLY exciting.

The chapel has the largest gothic fan vaulted ceiling in europe and, having climbed a windy winding stair with the stone treads heavily indented in the middle by centuries of footsteps, you can then walk on top of the vaulting. 12 cm of stone separates you from a hideous drop - but it hasn't broken though yet.

You then continue up onto the leads and look down on the towers and spires, the golden stone and old red brick that is Cambridge. Wonderful!

I took this photo of the excited others from a vantage point on the roof ridge. Everything is much larger than it appears from the ground.
