A Lot of Trouble
My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,
Tonight I went to see "Nosferatu" at the Roxy Cinema in Miramar with Luke.
He was really most insistent on going to see it with me. I don't think because of the film as such, he just really wanted us to spend some time together.
He's a nice man.
Plus, The Roxy is a very cool cinema, probably the closest thing Wellington has to The Dominion. It's a bit arty and before the movie, they amused the audience by showing some really cheesy vampire movie trailers, like Zoltan: Hound of Dracula and The Nude Vampire.
Both of these trailers drew appreciative giggles from the audience.
The film "Nosferatu" itself is very impressive. It looks amazing, but it also sounds incredible. The voice of Count Orlok is booming and sinister and terrifying. I really enjoyed the film, which is pretty faithful to the 1922 silent movie, but also expands upon it.
It's like a poetic, dark gothic fantasy about love and sex and death.
"That was a lot of trouble to go to, just for a legover," said Luke bluntly as the film ended.
He then drove me back to Wellington station and I made it home just after midnight.
It had been a surprisingly Xmassy evening. The film is set at Xmas and the Roxy itself was very nicely decorated.
All the same, I can't help but feel disappointed in myself that I hadn't even heard of The Nude Vampire.
