skulls

For family day out today we went to St Leonard's Church in Hythe on the way to Dover Castle. In the crypt there are thousands of skulls lined up, some with interesting wounds from sword punctures and tumours. A bit weird but strangely not creepy. The custodians were a pair of older ladies delighted that people came to see their charges and proudly showed off the more curious ones. There are also a collection of detached jaw bones some with more teeth than others and a wall of femurs. Look it up on the internet!

Dover Castle wasn't at it's most photogenic with a heavy sea fog spoiling the view. We are not used to going to busy places so we decided to return once schools are back and the tourists have gone home. We did enjoy a guided tour of the WW2 tunnels and a wander round some of the less crowded exhibits.
