Adult Education - English

This is a new pilot project in the English language. (Jen is asking the price of fruit!!)
Over the past year we have developed new projects in Adult Education, but more recently decided that we should limit this for the beginning to speaking and reading English. It is a pilot and we are co-operating with and supporting other groups. It is all on a voluntary basis.
We also work with this group on a women's Self Help, business project and also an urban Horticulture programme. This is not the full group as others who have had some early schooling have moved on to go to Secondary Education and sit exams.
Every woman here has her own individual harrowing story. They don't dwell on it or the past. They are on the move and it has been worth all my time in Malawi just to see the change.
This a low cost and almost no cost venture. The success is astounding. No need for jeeps or computers or graduates. Malawians can always find their solution if the World would allow them and give a little push. We call it Inspiration, Education and Challenge, but of course you need always to ask those women what they need, and they will do your plans.

Women make up half of the world's population and yet represent a staggering 70% of the world's poor. For the millions of women living in poverty, their lives are a litany of injustice, discrimination and obstacles that get in the way of achieving their basic needs of good health, safe childbirth, education and employment. Overcoming these inequalities and ensuring that women benefit from development requires that the needs and desires of women are not only taken into account, but be put front and centre..
We are doing our best, for a few, but every single one counts, and we love them dearly.
