Filling Station

One of the farmers in the village installed an automatic coin operated milk filling station (Milchtankstelle) where one can get one's milk, either with one's own container or buy a bottle at the machine. The milk is untreated but cooled with of course a warning that it should be cooked before being used. It comes from a herd of "Braunvieh" a breed originating from Switzerland. The mum & calf in the Blip are part of a herd of Limousin "suckling cows" who we can often see and hear from the house. I simply adore real fresh milk but sadly my tummy doesn't. Talking of which have had a mild tummy upset for a few days but reckon I have now tracked down what it is, so hope it will be gone tomorrow.

The rain yesterday turned out to be less than I thought (8 liters/sqm) and only one of about 8 rainwater cisterns was full. Other parts near here had 50 liters/sqm in 30 minutes but there again , also flooding and storm damage. Rather little than too much! Sun is back but it is pleasant at around 23°C but due to go over 30°C on Thursday and stay that way for a while, all thanks to a low named Christian over the British Isles and a high over Spain named Antonia which will shovel warm air to us but appearently not be as humid as last week.

The weather Highs and Lows which are published in TV, newspapers, radio etc can be adopted/bought in Germany for 20 Euros but following the rules: in 2013, female names for highs, male for lows but this changes each year and then following in order, A,B,C. I think there are a few rules as to the name but they can be pretty outlandish. On the english language Technical University of Berlin website you can get all the details of who has adopted which name/vortex. Not restricted to Germans, people from all over the world have adopted. Perhaps a novel birthday present but 2013 is more or less sold out. Bavarian George "Schorsch" has been booked and will be the 16th next low. Hopefully Georgie stays away for a while.

PS - As a few have commented on the legality of selling raw milk here the Wiki info. Seems it isn't banned in EU but each country has it's own/extra rules. Banned in Scotland but allowed in England under special conditions eg only direct from farmer and not in supermarket. Also allowed in 28 US States.
