Purple Mexican Sage

As I was pulling into the parking lot beside the office, I saw the early morning sun hitting these pretty purple blooms. I parked the car and came back to the flowers with my camera to catch this shot. One thing that I noticed, they looked VERY different on the side towards the sun from the side away from the sun. This side (away) seemed to have a little halo effect that I found enticing.

I looked this plant up on the net and if I have the wrong name for it, please let me know. I'm a photographer, not a botanist!!
