Eryngium

Firstly thank you to everyone who commented on yesterday's image which was very much an emergency blip. The shot was in fact part of a hand blown vase made here in the Isle of Wight. It was lit from below with a diffused flash.

I am still experimenting with the Niall Benvie inspired field studio to make a simple set up which can be taken into the field. This picture of an Eryngium from the garden was set up in the garage so that I could practice balancing the power of the two flash guns out of the breeze and rain. The set up is very simple but needs to be modified for portability. The hard part is to produce a natural looking light from the two strobes. The picture was taken with the D800 and Voigtlander 90mm macro lens. It will not show here but the detail on the original is astounding.

I'm quite excited about the possibilities of the technique which will be used to produce a folio of pictures for the camera club project and exhibition towards the end of the year. Just for fun the text was added to create the look of a botanical print, just hope I have got the correct name as plant identification is not a strong point.
