Mill of Welten (Weltermolen)

This mill was mentioned in the 14th century and was long a unit with the house Strijthagen (up Welten), that a little furtherlooks out over the Welterpond. The mill currently consists of an elongated portion of a floor under the mansard roof, plus tower and mill area. The tower has a sloping roof trim of marl. The mansard tent roof is topped by a weather vane in the shape of a carp. The house is situated idyllically in the Geleenbeekdal between tree groups. The American chestnut trees next to the mill wheel of the medium size type are planned around 1880.
A portion of the mill is now residential. The mill is after the restoration of 1982 back into use and is regularly open to the public.
