Site Condition Monitoring

Out Site Condition Monitoring at Milton Wood SSSI today with a colleague.
The site is special for its wet woodland (mostly alder, hazel, and ash), lichen assemblage and Whorled Solomon's seal.

Lovely day, but hard work as much of the wood is in a steep gorge.

We didn't manage to relocate the Whorled Solomon's Seal (see 3 July 2013 for a photo at a different site). Now this was either due to it not being present or our poor map reading and compass bearing skills! Neither of which bode well by-the-way! I reckon it wasn't anything to do with holding the map upside-down but rather the dense carpet of bracken that had shaded it out.

To be sure I expect we will try to go back in a couple of weeks with someone who has seen it on site before.
