Selasphorus rufus

This goes against my long standing though unspoken "Thou shalt blip no birds at feeders" rule, but this shot turned out so well, I'm blipping it anyway. This is a Rufous Hummingbird (a female or immature male, it's difficult to say which), one of two species of Selasphorus in North America. The other is Allen's Hummingbird, who is easily confused with Rufous in its natural range of coastal California, but not here in the Great Basin. I've been spending the weekend on the eastern side of the Sierra and just stopped into Latte Da Coffee this morning for a mocha and a muffin. The feeders they've set up in their flower garden out back were brimming with hummers--mostly Rufous but a couple Black-Chinned as well.
