The struggle

As I've blipped before, Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey is a revered figure here though folks tell me the current Prime Minister is trying to downplay his significance. There is no shortage of statues, or plaques or quotations from him.

One statue has him riding a horse while in military uniform presumably leading his troops into battle. Alongside this is a scene from a factory acknowledging the contribution which armaments factory workers made to the struggle.

On the other side is a similar group of figures which I interpreted as representing education. Someone (the only woman) was reading a book; others looked pensive.

I quite liked the action of this group. It is also like the way sculpture and friezes are used to here to tell a story.

Home on Saturday. It will be a good day.
