Evening mist forming over the rain soaked fields by Munlochy Bay. Plenty more rain today. This was after it finally ceased. Drier day forecast for tomorrow. May finally cut that grass.

(Boring camera stuff follows. More a reminder to myself than anything else - how I spent/wasted a rainy days holiday.)

Camera arrived a day earlier than expected. It's planned to replace a couple of others that have been giving issues for a while. Spent ages checking it over and cleaning it thoroughly. Sensor in need of a good clean, with various really stubborn spots. Took the best part of an hour to clean that alone, without leaving any streaks or dust - clean and check, clean and check, clean and... etc. It might have been cleaner if the automatic self cleaning function hadn't been turned off, for some reason.

Shutter count was 7003, and not the quoted 4800. Fairly little use really, though some wear around the gripped area made me wonder if it should have been higher still. None of the cameras I've had have worn plastic smooth like that, and they've had much higher shutter counts. We all use them differently I suppose.

The lack of a paper manual is nearly always a clue that it was either bought abroad, or was a "grey import". The JP sticker, rather than a UK one, and oriental text on the accompanying documents and software, made me decide not to bother trying registering it on the Nikon UK site. Not that it was likely to have had any warranty left.

Firmware versions were both 1.00. Downloaded and updated them to the current version - four updates ahead. Reset all the various menus to the default values and set everything up for my preferred usage, adding comment and copyright information that will be inserted in to ever photo. Charge battery and finally take it out for some testing of it's picture taking ability (though not today's Blip). Seems okay... fingers crossed.
