Rowing up

We are baling the second cut silage today. This field was mowed a few weeks ago for silage, but the grass has grown back strongly. So it was mowed again yesterday and the grass wilted instantly in the hot sunshine. This morning's showers slowed us down a bit, but the stiff warm breeze this afternoon has dried everything out again.

This tractor is "rowing up" - gathering the mown grass into piles. When he has finished, the baler will gather up the piles and spin them into grass "bobbins" which are then wrapped in black silage wrap to ferment for the winter. The farm smells like a newly mown lawn today - delightful!
