B is for bowl....

to be precise a Barbara Davidson bowl that my mum commissioned from the well known Larbert-based potter in the 70s as a present for my Dad. It's the Clouds pattern that Barbara still makes and has stood the test of time. It's possibly the biggest bowl she ever made. My Dad had just discovered tossed salads in the Italian style and wanted a bowl that would allow the oil and vinegar to be added with precision with plenty of space for tossing each leaf. The trick was to have just enough dressing to have no liquid left once the salad was finished!

Needless to say I think of him every time I look at this. These days though we tend to use it as a fruit bowl and eat our salads undressed!
