Contemporary Art.....

A new find!
The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo in Seville.
We usually steer clear of modern art but this was brilliant.
The building is astonishing.

It used to be a monastery. When it was sold in the mid 19th century an Englishman, Charles Pickman bought the Cartuja and converted it into an internationally renowned pottery factory. It still has the huge kilns.

When Seville was chosen to hold the Universal Exhibition of 1992 the Monastery was restored for use as a cultural centre.

The monastery, refectory, chapels etc have all been kept and beautifully restored without losing any of it's splendour but modern art has been incorporated into the buildings. So you get of mix of spanish tiles, arches, religious statues and suddenly a modern painting. Wonderful!

Have blipped this because it was such a surprise as we walked through the entrance archway.
