Sundial 5 - Inveresk

Here is another very elaborate sundial for the rich aristocracy to impress their peers in past times.
The original sundial at Inveresk Lodge in Musselburgh was taken to the Marling School in Stroud with this polyhedral sundial coming originally from Pitreavie Castle in Fife  but I don't know why it was taken to Gloucestershire. This is very slightly older being dated 1644 and is possibly the second oldest lectern dial in the world.
I have blipped the top to show the different faces but it stands on a lectern which itself stands on four balls on a square plinth upon an octagonal base. There are about 18 faces of various shapes including cylinders all of which correctly seemed to indicate the same time, and is topped by a star face.   It has the initials and arms of Sir Henry Wardlaw and his wife's family, the Beatons of Balfour.
