Why did the caterpillar cross the road

This beautiful caterpillar crossed my path as I was walking in the park. (it was either this or a photo Of the brunch/lunch I had!) Amazing undulating body as it moved, and extraordinary unexpectedly blue tail but wouldn't stay still for a photo, so intent it was on its journey across the path. I wonder what it'll grow up to be...
