Award-Winning Ribs

Our friends Gary and Joyce have been cooking in BBQ competitions for a number of years. We have heard them talk about the process and enjoyed a lot of delicious practice sessions but have never actually seen them in action at a real competition. They travel quite a bit around the upper Midwest and today happened to be in Brainerd, MN, which is only about 30 miles from where we were in Emily, so we decided to go watch. Their team is called Subtle Smoke, and this was their entry for the rib contest. They also made chicken, pork and beef brisket. After they turned in the required amount, we were able to taste! These ribs (with their jagged bones), were unbelievably delicious!

We also had fun in Emily at the St Emily Church's Festival. This was a simple but fun carnival. One of the games was a ring-toss over wine bottles. This was, as you can imagine, a hit with the adults. Don won us a bottle of wine!
We spent some time on the lake on Linda and Mike's kayaks, Mike grilled hamburgers, and then another campfire to help us enjoy the bottle of wine.
