France - day 4

Drive along the gorge road to St Martin where we will spend the day by the river swimming and reading our books. This picture is take from one of the viewppints on the gorge road and is of a bend in the river known as Madelaine. It all looks so innocent but people die on the river every year. The last fatality was on Friday when a young lad of 15 went in tne water with his friends and never came out. Another girl of 13 went under and got her foot caught in the rocks. Luckily some young lads dived in and pulled her out but broke her leg in the process. A small price to pay I guess. Matthew paddled this river 5 days a week for 5 months of the year for 5 years. We shouldn't under estimate what a potentially dangerous job that was especially as he was guiding groups of school children at the time.

The evening meal will be in Aigueze which is on the other side of the river. Very pleasent it was too, and I had squid. I do like seafood.

35 in the shade snd I have my lilly white legs out. By the end of tbe day they may show a slight pink tinge but that's about the best I can hope for. They are tan proof unlike Diana's nose.she is currently doing a very good Rudolph impression
