Rest and be Thankful...

Flossie has to be the subject of my blip today.. because yesterday she had an experience that shocked us all. While taking her out for a late evening walk she was bitten or stung by something on her foot (I think). She had an almost immediate and very dramatic collapse after it. We carried her home sensing that things were not quite right.. (she refused to move then started scratching at her ears violently enough to draw blood). On arriving home she lay down looking listless and we called the emergency Sunday night vet. Within minutes she was lying fighting for her life.. eyes rolled back, tongue lolling, she panted and puffed shallowly- occasionally stopping breathing only to start panting more rapidly her heart racing.. this lasted about 8 minutes and at one point I was not sure she would survive. She just as suddenly stopped panting and slowly came round looking confused and very limp. We eventually got her to the emergency vet and he checked her over. Her heart sounded ok and she had no fever..so he gave her an antibiotic and a cortisone shot and sent us home telling us to let her rest and drink plenty of fluids.

It was a shocking fright.. and today she is very placid and lacking energy but is thankfully still with us. I suspect it was possibly an adder bite.. but the vet thought it more likely a hornet sting. Either way it is good to have her with us today.

She loves to sit halfway up any stairs she comes across.. and reminds me of a songI heard years ago on the Muppets!!!
