Cooking nsima...

Today was at a Caregivers training session in Champhira in one of our rural areas. We had arranged for 24 caregivers to be trained from 4 early years centres but when people heard there was training going on we had people from 7 centres! They were a great bunch and very eager to learn. When we suggested stopping at 4pm, they said we should continue until 5.30pm! Its not often that students want to learn outside of the allocated time! Some of their educational levels were quite low so it may take time for them to understand what is going on.

As in most homes in Malawi cooking for the training is done outside over an open fire and the staple food here is maize which is cooked into a stiff porridge called nsima (in different parts of Africa it has different names). Here you can see the cooking team - complete with child!! They were a very happy bunch!

Apologies - I have not had time to even look at anyones blips for the past couple of days and for the next two days I am out in the field again - will catch up over the weekend hopefully. Thank you for commenting on my blips though :-))
