Reversing Rapids - Squirrel Cove, Desolation Sound

Today we left Grace Harbor and decided to check out the various arms in the Malaspina Inlet...Theodosia Inlet, Okeover Landing, and Isabel Bay. It was early and the sun was lighting up the non picturesque shore, but you can't have everything:)

We decided to then head over to Cortez Island, and see what Squirrel Cove had to offer, as we've heard about the lake above that fills with water at high tide, and then becomes a rapid for those who want to shoot it in their kayaks or dinghys. Although it was low tide, there was still a stream coming from the upper area and it was breathtaking to sit at the bottom and witness. I can't wait till later in the day to see how it looks.

Well I'm here to report that we made it down the rapids into the lake, then hung around as high tide neared....then reved up the old nissan and made it back up the rapids...breathtaking for sure!!! Then we hung around and watched lots of others attempt it...such fun! The photo today is of the folks waiting in the cove to get up to the lake...this was taken right before high tide.

FLICKR PHOTOS....

While in the upper lake we found a kingfisher and a blue heron, both waiting for their photo session:)

To top off the day we had "burgers on the grill"...is there anything better?
