Caripeta aequaliaria

The Red Girdle Moth. A Geometrid that ranges throughout the coniferous forests of the western U.S. Adults lay on Ponderosa, Lodgepole, and Western White Pines, Douglas Fir, and Western Hemlock. This is an autumn-flying species--seems they're getting a jump on things.

The Red Girdle Moth is closely related to both Sabulodes edwardsata and Neoterpes trianguliferata. This group of beautifully decorated winged things is steadily becoming one of my favorites.

Another view.

And another.
