Quel surprise!

Arrivals day is always difficult, made even more so by things that just seem to continue going wrong! This weekend it was the turn of a curtain pole, which decided to break. Now with no replacement curtains we had to take the blinds set out of a van that was to be empty until the week after, and put them up instead. The only problem being that Thom dropped a gold screw (of which we had no spares) onto the dry brown grass when he was putting up the support pole. I then decided the best thing to do would be to drop another one to see what it would look like on the floor. Lost that one. Cue fifteen minutes trying to find said screws while knowing that we were running out of time to get the whole day of cleans done. You will be happy to know that I actually miraculously managed to find one of the lost screws, and Thom found another in our van that would just about “do” too, so disaster was averted.

While all of this was occurring, we also had an unexpected arrival. One that was not on our arrivals list, and were quite annoyed at this fact. This then ended up with me ringing our boss to find out what had happened and where we should be putting them. Admittedly, I would be rather annoyed as well to find that our booked holiday was not on a system on arrival so I can’t blame them! Turns out that although it wasn’t on either our support sheet or our manager’s, it was on the online system so luckily we did have a van in which they could go in. The only problem being that we had not cleaned this one, as we had assumed that there would be no one in it until the next weekend! Cue dropping everything to clean this van so the customers could start their holiday. There is nothing like the sick feeling in your stomach when you realise that something has gone wrong.

Once all the early arrivals were out of the way however, and we had cleaned everything we needed to, Thom and I settled down in the sunshine outside our van and brought the guitar out to sing/play with. I will let everyone see what Thom looks like, honestly…just not yet!
