York: The Long and Short of It

Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate. A very short street with a very long name.

Back in 1505 it was known as 'Whitnourwhatnourgate', which apparently meant 'what a street!', it got its current name a little later.

Great for the York tourist trinket trade!
