Sundial 9

This simple modern sundial was commissioned in 1970 and is a huge square 5 metre block of concrete with a bronze gnomon.   The Roman figures I to XII are repeated twice but as it is surrounded by trees on three sides the sun will not shine much on it and certainly not today when a heavy rain shower stopped me exploring the interesting art trail beside the river at Perth.
In the background is the River Tay where just upstream a teenager was tragically drowned 10 days ago when he tried to swim from an island to the shore. The Polish boy had been staying with relatives and so now yet another family face a time of sorrowful memories.
