Stiffling hot, so we took Cam down to the river. Tom Sawyer, fishing, home-made rafts and all that. Adventure. Not quite. Cam was finally persuaded to remove his shoes and socks, then he hoiked up his shorts and, after a moment's hesitation, stepped into the stream. He headed for the deep end - about nine inches deep - then turned triumphantly, "Now, can we go to your house and play soccer?" Oh, dear . . .
