Electricity
A busy day down in Chester today, and I only realised I hadn’t taken a photo for blip when I got back to the car at the end of all the meetings. This is a detail from a building that was just around the corner from where we used to own a flat. Only the facade of the building remains and it has been developed into apartments behind.
When it was built, it generated electricity for the lighting in Chester’s famous Rows and was owned by Chester Corporation. My memory of the building from my childhood in the 1960s was that it had been taken over by MANWEB (the local electricity board) and was used by them until they moved out of town after privatisation. By which time they had been acquired by Scottish Power, a subsidiary of the Spanish firm Iberdrola. Not sure the city fathers could have envisaged that sort of globalisation scenario back in 1896!
Quite a lot achieved today, despite feeling crappy from this cold I’ve picked up. Still a lot more to do as regards streamlining mum’s affairs, but at least I can do it all from my PC in Kendal now, rather than running up and down the M6 to Chester every other week.
Having said that, I’m planning on going down next week to see mum for Easter…
