Short back and sides

Time for the summer trim of the willow tunnel in the Linda Vista Gardens, Abergavenny. It took four of us only two hours to do the job. We've left a few sturdy straight shoots on top, which we can take off and use to replace failing bits in the winter, when they're dormant. Otherwise, it's not looking too bad, but the withies, so slender a couple of years ago, are rapidly becoming trees, and their desire to grow vertically is forcing the height of the tunnel ever upwards. How long can a willow edifice carry on, I wonder? I've only ever seen young ones.
