Friday ~ Eastbourne
The day started with a drive to the front, park up and walk from the fisherman’s boats along to the pier and back again. The weather was lovely and the cold breeze had eased off. On the way back we stopped at a large beach cafe, sat outside overlooking the beach and enjoyed a bacon roll and cup of tea.
An hours rest at the house before we headed out again. A half hour drive to Hailsham to visit my uncle. The whole reason for this part of the trip. I haven’t seen him for absolute years and years but equally my dad hasn’t seen his brother for a number of years either. I booked the accommodation a day before we found out my uncles wife had died suddenly and unexpectedly in January. My uncle himself had a stroke a few years back and isn’t in the best of health. His daughter is now his carer. Conversation was slow going as he seems to know what’s going on but there’s a delay in finding the right words he’s looking for. We took the lemon drizzle cake that the owner of the house we are staying kindly made and left for us and went down a treat. It was nice for dad to have a couple of hours with his brother.
In the evening we walked back to the harbour…, this time for an Indian meal.
