The Jewels In the Crown!

The fundamental reason for undertaking the van trip of 5,000 km from Barcelona to Largs in Scotland and back, in February, was to bring these chairs ‘home’. For the first time in forty years, they are reunited under the same roof with the other (black) G-Plan chairs with which they shared the front room of our family home in Paisley, Scotland, since 1968. These orange ones are now in our bedroom upstairs.

Every time I sit in them, I recall that Uncle Robert and Aunt Irene, Uncle David and Aunt May, Jack and Helen Tannahill, Nick and Betty Smith, the Synots and many more would have enjoyed their aprés dinner or theatre event sat in these very chairs.

Mum used to call me on the phone to put the oven on so that her wonderful flans (the best was tuna and sweet corn) were well heated for their arrival.

Oh, the hoots that used to come out of that front room, which still echo down the ages as I tie my laces every morning ready for the day ahead!.
