Austen Deans OBE

Famous NZ painter. Known for his landscapes and work as war artist, second world war. Lived at Mt Peel where we have been visiting today. Went to a church constructed in 1868 and still remains in amazing condition and doesn't have power connected even today. the grounds were just as incredible with 160-year oaks walnut and chestnut Trees and very large Holly hedges. For the forester, there was a 165-year-old pinus radiata tree. Very impressive.
