On The Road
Living in Cornwall brings lots of positives but the drive out today emphasised one disadvantage.
We enjoyed a home cooked breakfast and headed off around 10:00am. Normally on a Friday the traffic is coming into Cornwall and when you reach the M5 it’s heading south. Not today, 7.5 hours to cover 270 miles, aside from a three car shunt on the A30 the rest of the delays water down to the sheer volume of traffic, we rarely achieved 40mph on the M5.
Worth the trouble though, we checked into our hotel and walked out onto the terrace to join six others who joined the Royal Navy as Artificer Apprentices at HMS Fisgard in Torpoint, Cornwall, on 2nd January 1970. Of the six I had not seen three since December 1970, a little over 54 years ago.
We enjoyed an evening meal where the alcohol section of the bill far exceeded the food section as we reminisced.
The photograph shows the entrance to the hotel along with its ‘Blue Plaque’ and the car park reflected in the huge mirror.
