Richard Pearse

Richard Pearse known in Te Muka as possibly the first man to have flown a aircraft, beating the Wright Brothers by Six months. Unfortunately, it wasn't recorded and procedures for measuring his flight. Above is the monument celebrating the place in which this flight took place.
