Anne Armstrong
I finally started The Ghosting of Anne Armstrong. I’ve been meaning to read it for ages, and now that I’m in it, I can’t stop thinking about how close this story feels. It’s strange reading about a place I know so well, but through the lens of something so dark, so forgotten. It makes the fields and villages feel different.
Anne was only fourteen, in Northumberland 1673 (352 years ago) I keep picturing a girl that age walking into court and accusing grown men and women of witchcraft. And the fact that she vanished… it makes everything about her feel ghostlike. The book doesn’t just tell her story, it wraps her in uncertainty and not knowing what happened to her feels like a gap in the land itself.
