Casks
Dull overcast day with some heavy showers.
No walk for me today. My blip is of some of the barrels/casks from the Springbank distillery which is at the back of our building.
These casks are all empty and will have been sourced mainly from the USA and Spain.where they have previously been used to age whiskey and sherry.
Scotch whisky rules allow repeated use of casks for maturation. the law for bourbon is different such that the cask can only be used once. This normally ensures a good onward supply of casks for the Scotch whisky trade.
There are different grades of casks used which influence the price of them. The majority of casks used in Scotland are refills. these are casks which have held Scotch previously along with any other beverage that the barrel may have originally contained.
