That Will Do!

Trains, Planes and Autmobiles

It's always interesting when Mss Flum sends a WhatsApp with links to a railway engine visiting the area.

She came over for tea and we all drove over to Shawfair station, where it was due to stop for a few minutes, affording photographic opportunities

Here it is, Diesel Electric Class 37, aka English Electric Type 3, Isle of Mull 37403. Constructed in the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows in 1965 and named Isle of Mull, she has undergone a few name changes in her time, to Glendarroch, Ben Cruachan before returning to her original name, as at present.

Today she was on the Grangemouth Growler Tour, starting from Bo'ness  (where she lives) headed to Ayr, Largs, Grangemouth, Shawfair, then to Tweedbank and returning to Bo'ness.

While stopped at Shawfair a crowd of photographers appeared, I believe from the train as they all bunched up at the end of the platform - see top of picture. Other photographers appeared from nowhere, all keen to record this rare visit.

For myself, I was just enjoying the camaraderie and my best snap was as she departed, with the driver smiling from the cab. We three returned to the car and home for a warming cuppa and to continue our family news.

Extra photo of the sky at lunchtime, taken from the bedroom window. If you look carefully you may see the aeroplane carrying B, S and the Flumlet on their way to the USA. We understand that they have landed safely so look forward to news from there.
