Sgwarnog: In the Field

After Friday’s big day out, I stuck closer to home for my Saturday football, heading across to the suburbs of north Leeds for a first visit to the home ground of Horsforth St. Margarets.

Horsforth were hosting Knaresborough Reserves in a West Yorkshire AFL Premier Division fixture, with both occupying low to mid-table positions as the season draws to a close. Horsforth seemed to have a very smart set of facilities, part of the Horsforth Sports Club complex along with the cricket club, running club and rounders team, and there were plenty of spectators along to support both teams. Knaresborough ended up taking the three points with a 0-2 win.

I had a long chat with a Norwegian groundhopper and Leeds fan, who was the only other person there who had logged in on the futbology app. He was over for an Easter week of Leeds games and whatever other matches he could find. This was his 1840th ground which put my modest 139 in the shade somewhat :-)

For my image I’ve chose a scene that shows off the situation rather than the facilities, with Tinshill and Cookridge rising to the Tinshill BT Tower on top of the hill. Horsforth (yellow) are unusual at this level in wearing squad numbers rather than 1-11. Judging by the numbers on display they were having to dig fairly deep into their squad on this Easter weekend.
